The Boroughs

It's a travesty this show was cancelled
Addressing the biggest issue first, the show was cancelled by Netflix soon after the series debuted. Officially, Netflix says that it's because the show was too expensive. Some have thrown out that the Duffer Brothers signing a contract with Paramount is the real reason. Whatever the reason, it is incredibly disappointing. In saying that, the only season does have a real ending. The questions are answered. It is still 100% worth watching in my opinion. It does have a bit of a tease showing there could be more, but it works well as a standalone mini-series now. The show itself revolves around a retirement community that Alfred Molina's Sam Cooper is moving into following the death of his wife. He doesn't really want to be there, but as strange things start happening, he decides to stick around to help figure things out. What follows is a mystery with a sci-fi base. The reasoning for everything happening is a very grounded drive that is quite common for anyone to feel. Without spoiling anything, the mystery is unveiled cleverly and the solution wasn't quite what I was expecting, but made plenty of sense once it was all laid out. Molina does do a tremendous job playing Sam Cooper. He had to in order to keep up with the rest of the cast. I won't name them as the image I picked this time does list the major players. It's a stellar cast that all get their chance to show their acting prowess. Just watching the cast perform is worth the watch as it's rare you'll get the chance to see actors at the top of their game performing at this level. While there's always a chance The Boroughs gets picked up by another streaming service, I wouldn't expect it to and this is probably all we'll get from this show. It's incredibly disappointing, because seeing this cast again would have been worth it. As it is, the season does work extremely well on its own and where things left off don't necessarily leave you hanging too much. It has my full recommendation .
