Vincent D'Onofrio and Charlie Cox are still two of the best castings ever
Review
Daredevil when it was on Netflix was one of the best superhero shows ever done. The gritty street level threats that the show covered were well done. The "hallway scenes" were the talk of action sequences at the time and many shows have since followed in its steps in having their own "hallway scenes." Daredevil was the class of the Marvel shows on Netflix, but ultimately met the same fate as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. When it ended in 2018, there were some that hoped to see it return. It looked bleak for a while, but the show eventually made its way back on Disney+ in 2025.
What a return it was as well. Bringing back both Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock AKA Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk AKA Kingpin immediately brought validity to the show. The two of them were just made to play these characters just as much as Robert Downey, Jr. was made to play Tony Stark. Deborah Ann Woll also deserves acknowledgment especially in season two where she returns as a regular.
Season two does pick up where season one ended. It's chaos and unfortunately it is easy to see some real world parallels. It does do a good job of separating fiction from reality while keeping the events grounded in a world of superheroes, but it's impossible to ignore some of the obvious similarities. None of them need to be pointed out in a review, but they are important in the context of when the show is airing.
What I will point out is that the show pulls off giving Murdock and Fisk a NYC playground to fight out their latest clash. They both play theirs hands behind the scenes while the city plunges further and further into disorder. It does eventually end in the perfect place, a courthouse. Without spoiling the outcome or what builds up to it, I was happy to see Matt Murdock being able to be a lawyer as well as Daredevil again. Add in one more brutal, but well coordinated "Hallway scene" and the show had everything I was hoping for Daredevil's return to television.
Closing / Recommendation
Daredevil: Born Again season two is the best entertainment Marvel has released in a few years. The continued brilliance of Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio is the driving force pushing the story forward. While it does toe the line of some unfortunate real world similarities, it handles those similarities well. If you enjoyed the run it had on Netflix, you absolutely will enjoy what the show accomplishes this season. and I strongly recommend the show. The cameos and setup for season three are worth it even if for some reason you're not a fan of Cox nor D'Onofrio. This is Marvel at its best
