A brilliant ride from start to finish that will keep you guessing
Review
Big Mouth like most Korean shows does an amazing job of keeping the viewer guessing. It especially uses numerous red herrings to excellent results while never truly being unfair. The premise itself was even misleading as it bills as a show about a lawyer with a terrible win rate taking on a murder case. While that is technically how the show starts, by the end of the first episode it becomes obvious that won't be the ultimate path of the show.
Where the show does go is on a wild ride that takes you from prison to a contentious race for mayor to indeed that eventual courtroom. The characters flow back and forth between the sides which also adds to the show keeping the viewer on their toes. It is an extremely fun ride that often had me itching to start the next episode as I lost track of the time. I do have to note that also in what I have to find most Korean shows do, it does end bittersweet. I won't give away how it accomplishes this because it's worth finding out for yourself, but the good guys almost never completely win and the bad guys almost never completely lose in Korean shows. At least in the approximately thirty I have seen to this point.
Big Mouth did win four major awards as well. Im Yooh-ah won 2022 MBC Drama award for top excellence award, actress in a mini-series for her portrayal of the Ko Miho. Ko Miho was the main female lead and wife of Park Changho. Park Changho was played by Lee Jong-suk who won the grand prize for his role. Together, Im Yooh-ah and Lee Jong-suk won the award for best couple. Finally, the show itself won for drama of the year. I also think it's worth pointing out Kim Joo-hun and Yang Kyung-won were also nominated for awards. They were the actors behind the incredible characters of Choi Doha and Gong Ji-hoon respectively. Both of them were two of the characters that switching sides while of course ultimately just looking out for themselves. Where that lands them in the story is something I won't spoil. Yang's Gong Ji-hoon was nominated as the best character which does make me want to see which character topped him because Gong Ji-hoon was one of the most fun characters I have seen in any show regardless of language in a long time.
Closing / Recommendation
While the show does have a bittersweet ending like I mentioned, it still has my complete recommendation to anyone. The eventual final villain is someone you will love to hate as he manipulates things as well as any fictional character even the likes of Lex Luthor. The sixteen episode ride is definitely one that will keep you on the edge of your seat and currently stands as one of the absolute best kdramas I have had the pleasure of watching.
